Arakawa (新川) is a character in the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise.

Description

Arakawa made an appearance as a taxi driver in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 5, driving Itsuki Koizumi and Kyon to a spot where closed space was located. His face was not clearly seen, and Koizumi made no attempt to introduce him to Kyon.

Arakawa made his debut in Remote Island Syndrome Part 1 as the butler of a distant relative of Itsuki, Keiichi Tamaru, instigating a fake scheme in which Keiichi is supposedly killed by Yutaka Tamaru.

Arakawa appears again in Snow Mountain Syndrome, when he serves the SOS Brigade, and in Where Did the Cat Go?, when he acts in another false murder.

Arakawa's final appearance in the show is in The Intrigues of Haruhi Suzumiya, in which he drives the car used to rescue Mikuru from Fujiwara and Kyouko Tachibana. Kyon recognizes him as the man who had been driving the taxi that Itsuki had used to take him to his first closed space.

In the spin-off series The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, Arakawa appears again in episode 8 "The Plotting of Haruhi Suzumiya" as a taxi driver for the group, later the chef of the hotel the group stays at. Yet again, he is recognised from previous by Haruhi, doubtless as a reference to the original series. Arakawa is mundane in the spin-off, as with the rest of the cast.

Notes

Arakawa occasionally appears in The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya as an absurdly skilled driver.

A character named Kennosuke Arakawa, voiced by Tomoyuki Higuchi, appears in The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzmumiya movie. His name is spelled differently in Japanese from the esper's, however.
