Key Events[]
- This episode features the 15,521st loop of the summer. The events in this episode are the same as those of the previous three episodes, except for minor changes in clothes and speech.
Summary[]
Haruhi drags the SOS Brigade around to various summer vacation activities, including swimming in the pool, going to an O-bon festival, playing with fireworks, and bug hunting for the 15,521st time. Kyon is plagued by an increasing sense of déjà vu as the activities continue.
Again, Asahina calls Kyon in a panicked state, asking him to meet her. Kyon meets up with her, Nagato, and Koizumi, who again explain that the world has been experiencing an endless time loop from August 17 to August 31 because Haruhi feels she still has things she must do during summer vacation. Nagato reveals that this is the 15,513th time they have looped.
Haruhi closes up the summer activities. Kyon suffers a more intense moment of déjà vu, but still can't think of what to do to make Haruhi satisfied and leaves his summer homework unfinished, therefore letting the loop continue.
Characters[]
Paranormal phenomena[]
Haruhi causes time to reset two weeks, as a consequence removing all future beyond those two weeks. The other members of the SOS Brigade experience remnants of memories from earlier versions of the summer as déjà vu. The Data Integration Thought Entity and the data organisms created by it recall everything from the earlier versions of the summer.
Quotes[]
- Haruhi: "Alright, Kyon, you can't let Koizumi beat you! Come on, full speed ahead!"
- Kyon: "No ESP allowed!"
Trivia[]

Paper in cemetery
- This episode was the 16th episode broadcast for Season 2, but was the sixth new episode.
- Right after the pool scene, and right before Haruhi tells the SOS Brigade about the summer activities, in the cafe, an octagonal clock shows the time is 5: 05. It means that's Endless Eight 5.
- The insect Nagato finds, a yanbaru long-armed scarab beetle, was a member of an endangered species at the time the episode broadcast (and as of 2024, still is an endangered species) due to deforestation. Kyon's shock may have been heightened by the fact that the yanbaru long-armed scarab is found only in the northern part of Okinawa Island, meaning that Nagato either found a previously unknown population of an endangered species or made a cross-ocean trip to Okinawa during the contest.
- This is one of just two Endless Eight episodes in which the yukata shopping scenes are omitted, the other being "Endless Eight VIII".
- The round cage that the characters are spun around in by Haruhi could possibly represent the endless rotation of time.
- In this episode, the shot when Haruhi is walking away from the group on August 30th is repeated 3 more times, probably hinting how the Endless Eight episode would repeat 3 more times, bringing the arc to a grand total of 8 episodes.
- This is the only Endless Eight episode which does not show the SOS Brigade's attendance at the batting cages, though it is mentioned through Kyon's narration. The dialogue between Kyon and Nagato which normally takes place at the batting cages instead takes place during the test of courage.
- In the scene where the characters are exhausted after handing out balloons, Kyon says, "Now I know what it must have felt for Unit 00 after getting hit by that beam." This is a reference to Neon Genesis Evangelion Episode 6, where Eva Unit 00, piloted by Rei Ayanami, is struck by a heat beam which melts its shield and armor almost completely.
- In the second cafe scene, Kyon draws a number 8 on the "To-do list", hinting at the main theme to the episode arc.
