The Vanishing of Nagato Yuki chan

There is a news novel or manga called "The Vanishing of Nagato Yuki chan" I think. It is on wikipedia. But there isn't much information except it started on July 4. It has a different time period and different Yuki. --138.88.154.69 22:17, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I never heard of it. And besides, we're only following anything approved by Tanigawa Nagaru (anime and original light novels), so these should not be considered canon. Only dead fish go with the flow. 23:02, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I've heard about it, but we won't do anything about it until we get more info.--Tavisource-Sharp eyes, slick moves 23:17, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I just found it, but it wasn't translated. It looks like some fan-thing. If it's official then it looks terrible. --Fantomas 23:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Here I found it on animenewsnetwork and i used google cached to highlight it [1]. Also it's on wikipedia on the right side. The chapter is in english on mangafox now.--141.156.186.198 01:16, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
I found the link for mangafox [2] --141.156.186.198 01:55, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
This is a spin-off, hence not canon. Also, this is not an alternate Yuki; it is the one from Disappearance. Only dead fish go with the flow. 03:56, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Found out more about it. The manga is by Puyo, the same people who did the Haruhi-Yuutsu manga (which was quite innacurate)...It is an alternate universe. However, it's not canon to the right plotline, so until the manga develops we'll leave it out. Only dead fish go with the flow. 04:54, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
There is also an anime version. The first episode has ben fansubbed and uploaded to Youtube; presumably other epsiodes will follow.

Age

Didn't she go through the entireity of Endless Eight? Which lasted Five Thousand years or something? - 82.42.234.85 13:16, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah she did. But that does not affect anyone's age. Even Nagato's. --SMS1996 14:07, February 3, 2010 (UTC)

Not their physical age perhaps... but if one is conscious of what is happening for the duration of a Time Loop that exists for 5,000 years... I would definitely argue that it has at least some impact on their mental maturity. It can be argued that Yuki is effectively 5,003 to 5,004 years old on a mental level. I would also have to ask the question of whether she was actually in contact with her superiors for the entire duration of said event or not? Cledwin83 12:32, June 9, 2012 (UTC)

Nagato's story in Editor in Chief suggested she might have been alive for a ridiculously long time before she became an interface. On the other hand, Asakura said she was only three years old. The author just likes to mess with the readers' minds. This wiki generally does not allow speculation. The clearest indication we've gotten is when Asakura talked about Nagato's short three year life.
It's doubtful she was cut off from the IDSE. This was mentioned a bit in the prologue of The Intrigues (one version was cut off, one wasn't), although the clearest indication was from the barely canon manga that just came out in English. PSH aka Kimera 757 (talk) contribs) 14:20, June 9, 2012 (UTC)
We are talking about a series detailing the life and times of a teenager who can manipulate the laws of reality as if they are her own personal playthings and you are concerned about what qualifies as Canon? Cledwin83 14:35, June 9, 2012 (UTC)

Er I actually just did the math... Turns out that the Endless Summer only lasted a total of 595 years (rounded to the nearest whole number)... not the 5,000 or so years that was previously mentioned. So all told Yuki would not be some ominously ancient creature by the end of the Endless Summer... she would just be about the same age as a middle aged Elf from Dungeons and Dragons give or take a few hundred years. Cledwin83 06:46, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

15,532 iterations. 595 years, 18 weeks, and 3 days. Yes, I was in contact with the DITE the whole time, which is how I was able to retain my memories from each previous iteration. While my chronological age is currently 15 years, my mental age is approximately 610. And yes, the experience was... slightly tedious. Nagato Yukirin (talk) 12:53, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

Rifles...

Nagato had trouble with rifles? When did she have a rifle? PSH aka Kimera 757 (talk) contribs) 15:43, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

Endless Eight. When they went to the O-bon festival and she went to a shooting gallery she had issues with the rifle (she was holding it backwards). Only dead fish go with the flow. 15:54, March 14, 2010 (UTC)

Relationship with Mikuru

I will admit that the attraction can seem one-sided on Mikuru's part, for reasons I've given on her talk page. But Yuki still has her moments. As PsiSeveredHead mentioned, all she did to Mikuru during the filming of the movie was assault her repeatedly; but the way she assaulted her was very... suggestive. Here's a passage from the original novel:

  • Nagato hooked Asahina-san's leg and pushed the female-lead
waitress down onto the ground. The Goddess of Death now sat on top
of those voluptuous breasts like riding a horse. Asahina-san yelled
wailfully, grabbing Nagato's slim arms, which were doing the attack.

Keep in mind that given Yuki's powers, there were probably many ways that she could have done this, possibly without even touching Mikuru. Also, this very page mentions that Yuki denies staring at Mikuru because she wants to be more human (Could someone tell me where this is from?). In that case: Why'? - 82.42.165.6 10:57, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

You also have to keep in mind this was during the film when Yuki had two things to do: 1) stop the laser and 2) make it look natural in the context of the movie (otherwise Haruhi would get mad). The "human" line is much later, in the Scheme novel, and refers to something else entirely.
In any case we do not approve of analyzing lines to make sexual subtext. This is not a sexual series, we do not want to give people ideas (we want people to come to their own conclusions), and the line was probably, at the worst, fanservice (there are fanservice lines dropped everywhere in the novel that could be used to sexually pair up any two of the main characters, but that concept would be out of hand). Aster Selene 17:54, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
Of course this isn't a sexual series. It doesn't have to be one just to have a romance between two characters of the same gender. Also, yes, several lines in the series can be twisted to pair any two characters, but most of the time it can be shrugged off as a platonic friendship. Obsessive staring and suggestive actions (Which I still stand by, see below) hardly seem platonic to me. Not to mention there's hardly anything resembling a friendship between them in the first place, because Mikuru gets so damn nervous around her. - 82.42.165.6 05:22, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
In addition, we're seeing what's happening from Kyon's point of view. He is a young straight male with a huge fixation on Mikuru and no supernatural abilities. He had no idea what was happening at the time (his life was in danger, but he was thinking about chickfights, at least until Nagato told him what was going on). And Nagato was painfully pulling out Haruhi's contact lens. Maybe she had some less painful way to do so, which she likely would have done if she had some sort of crush on Mikuru. PSH aka Kimera 757 (talk) contribs) 18:25, November 7, 2010 (UTC)
It could be assumed that that's how Kyon interpreted the scene at first, if not for the fact that the entire series is told in past tense. In the first novel, he mentions several times what a mistake it was to get involved with Haruhi, even though in the narration he barely knows her yet. Also, Yuki probably could have removed the lenses without hurting her, but if Haruhi-Chan's anything to go by (It's not canon, but it's based on canonical information), she's a total pervert. Normally she'd do a better job of hiding it. But by this point, she's spent over 516 years lusting after her, and is taking the first opportunity she gets. - 82.42.165.6 05:22, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
Haruhi-chan is supposed to be crack. In any case, you are overanalyzing. I cannot see "shipping" as blatant in this series enough to warrant it on what should be a neutral wiki page. Aster Selene 05:27, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Relationship with Mikuru, back with a vengeance.

Keep in mind that so far, this only covers Melancholy. I'll add the rest as I re-read them. - SiFi270 09:34, December 26, 2010 (UTC)

Yuki's Masks

During the episodes known as "The Endless Eight" Yuki seemingly buys a mask at the bon-festival during each of the time-loops that actually features a Bon-Festival... So what exactly happens to the Masks after the Time Loop concludes? Does her ability to manipulate data allow her to keep each of these masks despite time being reset at the end of each time loop? Or do they disapear each time the loop resets? If she keeps them, where does she keep them? I imagine roughly 15,532 masks would consume a lot of storage space, no matter how much data you manipulate... Cledwin83 07:27, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

The physical data of each mask was overwritten each time the loop was reset, so I only have the one mask. And my ability to manipulate data can be (and in this instance, was) overrode by Suzumiya-san. Nagato Yukirin (talk) 12:56, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

The mask stand Yuki buys from also increases in size each time

On a first-name basis

Am I the only one who's bother with Nagato being called "Yuki" everywhere in this article? She's way too cool to be called by her first name. You have to be a god to call her "Yuki". Or Kyon's little sister.

Shouldn't it be replaced with "Nagato"? — Hellerick File:Flag of Divnogorsk.svg 02:29, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

This isn't a Nagato-specific issue. I'd rather use every character's surname except maybe Haruhi (on the grounds that this is what Kyon calls them). PSH aka Kimera 757 (talk) contribs) 03:26, January 20, 2013 (UTC)
I am fine with being addressed either way. Nagato Yukirin (talk) 12:57, April 12, 2015 (UTC)

Pain Immunity

How come Yuki Nagato is immune to pain? It might be impossible if she is not hurt, though, I heard of Kyon asking Nagato a question while watching the battle or data jurisdiction by Ryoko Asakura. He just said “Nagato!”, and then she said “Don't worry I'm fine.”, and he said “No you're not fine at all!”. Just tell me, why she doesn't care if she is injured!? --49.145.37.37 22:54, November 16, 2013 (UTC)ThePEAgames2004

  • She might not be immune to pain, but she doesn't normally express emotion. As an alien robot, she's just much more resistant to injury. Afterward she healed herself. PSH aka Kimera 757 (talk) contribs) 14:15, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
  • Being an artificial construct, it's quite likely that she just doesn't feel pain the way we organic beings do. Obviously, her body does register damage (as evidenced in Melancholy during her battle with Asakura and in Wavering when she "catches" the Mikuru Beam in her palm), but IMHO the sensation would be more of an awareness of something wrong with that area of her body, or even a persistent discomfort, rather than actual pain as such. (As an analogy, she probably registers damage as feeling like the "pins and needles" sensation that you or I would feel after having a body part 'fall asleep'--uncomfortable, but hardly debilitating.)
