Key Events[]
- Haruhi decides the SOS Brigade will make a film for the culture festival.
- Haruhi, Mikuru, and Kyon go to get supplies, such as a camera and model guns for the movie.
Summary[]
The SOS Brigade enters the inter-club relay event at North High's field day, with Haruhi making them all wear unusual costumes with headbands and banners strapped to their backs. The costumes increase the Brigade's reputation as the school weirdos, and the SOS Brigade easily wins the relay thanks to Nagato running her lap at superhuman speed.
Upon the start of a new term, North High School is preparing for the annual school cultural festival. Displeased with the class decision on a questionnaire and with a film she saw the previous night, Haruhi commits the club to an independent film. She casts Asahina and Koizumi as the leads, while fending off a continuous stream of objections to the project from Kyon. Inwardly, however, Kyon admits to an interest in seeing what sort of film Haruhi will make.
Haruhi uses the Literary Club's funds for the film's budget and negotiates with shop owners for free equipment, obtaining an expensive camcorder and an airsoft gun. She brings along Kyon to carry the items, and Asahina so that she can show the owners the film's star.

Quotes[]
- Kyon: "And so today, with a level of disinterest bordering on apathy, I once again popped on over to the clubroom. Why? The reason was because the girl striding boldly beside me said the following, and for no other reason."
- Haruhi: "Announcing the results of a survey? How dumb can you get? What's fun about that?"
- Haruhi: "There's absolutely no need to worry."
- Kyon: "I'm worried."
- Haruhi: "Leave the planning to me. I'll take care of all of it."
- Kyon: "Now I'm really worried."
- Haruhi: "Man, you're so annoying. I said we're doing it, so we're doing it."
- Haruhi: "Listen up, people! Whatever your classes are doing, this is more important! If anyone thinks different, we'll talk about it after the festival."
Trivia[]
- Haruhi's headband reads "Koharubiyori (小春日和 a period of temperate weather in early winter; lit. little spring-like weather)", in which 春日 can be also read 'Haruhi'. Yuki's headband reads "Okumanchouja (億万長者 a billionaire)", and this includes 長, which is the kanji used in her last name. Mikuru's headband reads "Zenjinmitou (前人未踏 a road that no one had yet walked; unprecedented)" and this includes the syllable "mi". Although Mikuru's name is not given in kanji, it has been widely speculated that Mikuru is an alternative reading for 'mirai (未来; future)'. Itsuki's headband reads "Kokontouzai (古今東西 all times and places; lit. past and present, in the Eastern and Western worlds)", and this includes 古, which is the kanji used in his last name. Kyon's headband reads "Kikiippatsu (危機一髪)", which reads "nick of time".
- This episode was the 20th episode broadcast for Season 2, but was the tenth new episode.
- The events in this episode take place before The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00.
- In the dubbed version, Haruhi asks Nagato's permission to use the Literature Club's funds during the SOS Brigade meeting. In the subtitled version, Haruhi obtained her permission beforehand, and in the exchange in the clubroom Nagato is simply confirming for a skeptical Kyon that she did give Haruhi permission.
- This episode ends abruptly (cutting out just as Asahina starts to talk), with the next episode picking up directly where this one leaves off. This is a motif which is maintained for all but the last of this story arc's five episodes.
- Kyon's titles and responsibilities are Assistant Director, Photographer, Editor, Gofer, Assistant, Errand Boy, Quartermaster, Everything Else.
- Two girls from Kouyouen are seen on the train. Some fans say they resemble Yui and Mio from K-ON!.
