Wendee Lee is one of the best and well-known voice actresses in the United States. Lee is also experienced in directing. Currently, both she and are directing the ADR process for Bleach. Her noted roles include Faye Valentine on Cowboy Bebop, Haruhi Suzumiya on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan and Konata Izumi on Lucky Star.
Early Life Edit
Wendee Lee was born and raised in Southern California. As a child, she lived between San Francisco and Los Angeles. From a young age she wanted to be an actress and began studying theatre and dance. She later earned a dance scholarship to Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena. At the same time she attended, Wendee teamed up with some Los Angeles rock bands and became known as a lyricist and singer.
She first got into the voice acting business in the 1980s, when a friend of hers, Christopher Amson, let her sit in on a recording session for Harmony Gold. Wendee expressed her interest in it and she landed an audition and the part in her first anime. In 1985 she voiced Vanessa Leeds in the anime classic Robotech.
Wendee kept her dance job, but continued in the voice acting business. Before finally becoming a full-time voice actress, Wendee developed theatre arts programs for High Schools and organizations, directing and choreographing dozens of musicals and plays. She also worked extensively with Dance Outreach, a nonprofit program designed to give handicapped children an ongoing dance curriculum. She soon created her own dance company - Planet Dancers.
Over time, her voice resume grew and afforded her the opportunity to branch into ADR script writing and directing. She also worked as a voice actor full-time.
She now has an extensive list of titles to credit as voice artist, writer, adapter and director. She now works full-time as an actress and director and loves the mystery animation provides. She is still active in theatre and even continues to choreograph. She has voiced many infamous roles in the world of anime including, Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop, Angel from The Big O, Yahiko Myojin from Rurouni Kenshin.
